MSFS 2024 Freeware Airports You NEED to Download Now

Here at AvGeekHangar, we like nothing more than whipping out our credit card when the latest highly detailed Flight Simulator Airport scenery releases; we sadly have one of the most expensive hobbies there is.

We also love freebies. If you have been living under a rock for the past 6 or so years, then you will probably not know of a little site called FlightSim.To. Simply put, this site gives your credit cards a much-needed break and offers the Flight SIM community a truck full of free aircraft, liveries, tools, and of course, sceneries.

I’ve personally downloaded hundreds of these over the years, including some of the premium options over on their dedicated payware section where a lot of indie developers and more recognised creators now sell their products.

So what are some of my favourite Free Airports available from FlightSim.To?
Below I’ve listed five along with some information on each one, but honestly I have so many to share. Each scenery listed includes the direct link, so you can head over to the creators download page and try it out for yourself.

Bonn-Hangelar Airport (EDKB)
by Hangar8

It’s worth mentioning before I get into this: most of these airports you can download for free could be mistaken for paid products.

The community creators build these really immersive airports as passion projects; some do it to share their work, and others use the platform as a portfolio, a way to capture simmers attention for what could potentially come from them.

In this case, Bonn-Hangelar by Hangar8 is the only scenery this creator has ever uploaded, or at least under that name.

It’s a fairly big GA aerodrome located in Germany; the level of detail on offer rivals some payware, in my opinion and provides simmers with an excellent location to fly with a variety of different aircraft.

All of the airport infrastructure has been modelled to an excellent standard, with hangars, office buildings, the on-site children’s playground and even the surrounding German Police building.

This is one of my all-time favourite freewares, so I had to include it in this article. The night lighting is another incredible detail, and with how detailed the hangars are, you can sometimes mistake screenshots for the real deal.

Definitely try this one out with a trusty Cessna or Piper aircraft and as with all airports featured in the article, explore on foot using MSFS 2024 walking mode.

Amboy Airfield (AM66)
by LittleBit

I’d say most of these airports are up there with some of my all-time favourites; I’d go as far as to say some of them are up there with some of the best payware sceneries.

Amboy is more of a fun freeware; it’s a real-life airfield, but originally I thought it was fictional because the creator, LittleBit, had included some quirky easter eggs within the scenery, and it’s one of the most immersive you’ll experience.

First of all, you’ll find yourself out in the middle of the San Bernardino desert when loading into this one. I recommend having a little read on the history of this place and watch some pilots on YouTube navigate the airport in real life.

The MSFS scenery is a perfect rendition of this small settlement; each building has been created to match the real-life one and by night it is honestly a bit scary to explore using your avatar. (Don’t go in the motel)

By day, this charming location is a bit more inviting; clear blue skies will give you a view over San Bernardino County and, more interestingly, a small look at Route 66 running right past the cafe and post office, which again have been modelled really well.

This one is a must for a bit of a change; locate a nearby gravel strip and set your course for AM66. Make sure you power down your aircraft after landing and stretch your legs; it is another brilliant avatar-friendly MSFS scenery.

Kärdla Airport (EEKA)
by JustOxy / Oxygen Design

This airport caught my eye on Flightsim.to not too long ago; it’s a small aerodrome located in Estonia on Hiiumaa island. It’s definitely one you can easily miss and most likely never visit in the simulator, but Oxygen Designs have done such an awesome job recreating it that I had to include it.

Kärdla Airport, from what I understand, is mostly used for the weekly non-stop flights to Tallinn with NyxAir; they use their fleet of Saab 340s, which is ideal with the simulator having it as a usable aircraft.

There is a ton of detail in this freeware; the landscaping makes the surrounding detail stand out while the custom objects give the airport great authenticity, plus an actual airport interior modelled with signs, chairs and a check-in desk. It’s incredible to see a free scenery with such detail, again I’m looking back at some paid airports I’ve looked at and some don’t even come close to this and the others I’ve featured.

If you have been flying the Saab 340 in the sim, it is quite easy to pick Australia as a great place to fly, but I’d recommend giving this airport a download; it is small but packed full of detail. Set your approach to runway 14 and check out the custom-modelled Roograhu port and restaurant; this one is another must for MSFS 2024.

Pula Airport (LDPL)
by Mystery Bites

Just like Kärdla, Pula caught my attention while scrolling through the endless pages of freeware airports on Flightsim.to and quickly stood out as another brilliant scenery made for the community.

This is version 2 of the scenery by creator Mystery Bites and works perfectly with MSFS 2024. There is also a GSX profile linked on the download page, so make sure to grab that if you install this airport.

Pula Airport REMAKE, as it is known, comes stuffed with lovely details throughout; again, we are seeing a modelled interior included, which is actually pretty amazing considering this is FREE. The apron comes packed full of clutter to make things look busy and feel immersive; landside is also faithfully modelled with loads of objects including cars, buses, parking spaces, barriers and custom foliage.

One thing I really love about this is the texture work; the terminal building looks aged, the marks on the walls give the airport some character and realism. While I never criticise freeware, I would have loved some passenger models in the terminal, as Mystery Bites has really done a great job and even included suitcases and bags around the airport.

Pula is another fab airport you can download for free. If you enjoy some low-cost airline flying, then you can really enjoy the scenery with the likes of Jet2, Ryanair and EasyJet all flying routes in from London, Bristol and Birmingham.

Duxford Airfield (EGSU)
by ChicoMick

Duxford is somewhere I’ve yet to visit in real life; it is a must for me and I hope I get to go there soon. For now, ChicoMick allows me to virtually wander around this absolutely insane recreation of the famous airfield and museum based in the south of the UK, this one is basically payware for free, and that is no exaggeration!

EGSU hasn’t just been modelled to match its real-life counterpart in some areas but recreated to match every single building, signpost, street light and car park. Honestly, you can walk around this scenery and just admire the authentic signage and building textures that make you feel like you are actually there.

Sure, the aprons and taxiways are all there, but all of the extra stuff is there like the barrier that automatically opens when moving from the hangars to the taxiways. You can also download an extra add-on that introduces hundreds of static people into the scenery; this is meant to mimic the crowds for the famous Duxford Airshow, and it is impressive to see.

Duxford Complete is in my top 10 sceneries ever, up there with some of the best payware airports available for the sim. It is another one you just have to explore with walking mode, and I know I haven’t spoken about flying in this article but I’m confident that the detail presented in these sceneries is so good, you’ll probably forget to fly anyway.
